Let me tell you a tale of cunning, deception, and… well, absolute nonsense. It all began when I sat down to play Brave Rats, a delightful little card duel where two rival clans of medieval rats battle for dominance. Normally, this game is about strategy, mind games, and outmaneuvering your opponent. But then a reader—surely an agent of chaos—issued me a challenge: What if I played randomly? No planning, no thinking, just pure luck.

Now, I love a good game of wits, but I also love embracing the unknown. And so, with a shuffled deck and a heart full of mischief, I threw caution (and strategy) to the wind and let fate decide my moves. Would luck favor the bold, or was I about to be utterly humiliated?

For those unfamiliar, Brave Rats is a game of quick, tactical battles. Each player has a deck of eight cards, each with a unique ability. Every round, both players pick a card, reveal them at the same time, and compare their powers. The first to win four rounds takes the kingdom. It’s short, sweet, and deceptively deep.
But this time, there would be no clever maneuvering, no well-planned counters. Instead, I shuffled my deck and drew blindly each turn, placing my faith in the Great Rodent of Fortune. My opponent, meanwhile, played like a normal, rational person.

In Round One, I played the Assassin, a sneaky little rat that could have taken down the Prince if it had been played against me. But fate had other plans—my opponent played the Prince, the strongest card in the game, completely overpowering my tiny Assassin. I had barely begun, and already my grand plan (or lack thereof) was in shambles.

In Round Two, I blindly tossed out the Wizard, a card that neutralizes the strongest card… from the previous round. If I had played it earlier, I would have taken down the Prince in an epic reversal! Instead, I watched helplessly as my opponent played the General, who automatically wins ties and is a major powerhouse in the game. My Wizard, wise but not powerful, could do nothing to stop him.

By Round Three, things weren’t looking great. I played the Spy, which doesn’t win battles but lets me peek at my opponent’s next move. Not that it mattered—because I still had to play randomly! Meanwhile, my opponent played the Princess, a card that wins the entire game if the Prince is played against it. I saw what was comi.ng, but I could do nothing to stop it.

In Round Four, I flipped my next card… and it was the Prince. Finally, a victory! Since my opponent played the Spy, which has no power of its own with random play, my Prince secured me a much-needed win. A small consolation prize, but nowhere near enough to turn the tides of battle.
But was it fun? Not really. Every card has a purpose, every matchup has counterplay, and every choice matters… when you actually make choices.

If you want to experience the true magic of Brave Rats, I highly recommend playing it properly. But if you ever feel like throwing strategy out the window and letting chaos take the reins, I won’t stop you—just be prepared for an absolutely ridiculous ride.
