Letter Tycoon Review – Word-Building Game with Patent Purchasing

I’ve recently had the joy of diving into the world of Letter Tycoon, a game where the beauty of language and the thrill of strategy intertwine in a delightful dance of letters and words. I have played this game seven times and every game is a new adventure. It is a cross between building words and commerce.

Each player is dealt seven cards (above left) and there are three cards (above right) are out as community cards. Here were mine. I decided to build the word blamed. This is a six-letter word and as a result, I get one stock and $4 based on word length. The photos below show you what happened here.

At the end of your turn, you can save your money or buy a patent of one of the letters in the word. I decided to buy the B card that allows me to get $1 each time an opponent uses a word with a B in it, and I also earn double if the word begins and ends with a vowel.

The essence of Letter Tycoon lies in its clever combination of word creation and economic strategy. With each turn, we draw from a pool of letters, our minds alight with possibilities, weaving these letters into words that are not merely spoken but built, patented, and owned. Each word we craft is a step toward our goal, earning us money, stocks, and patents that grant us exclusive rights to certain letters, a truly innovative twist that adds depth and delight to our linguistic endeavors.

As we navigate through the game, the challenge unfolds not just in the words we create, but in the strategies we employ. To invest in patents or to focus on building longer, more profitable words? To disrupt our competitors’ plans or to forge ahead on our own path? These are the decisions that shape our journey, that test our wit and our wisdom in equal measure. The winner in the 2 player has $45 patents. Letter Tycoon is like Scrabble meets Monopoly.
