In the midst of a moonlit night, under the canopy of twinkling stars, my companions and I gathered to brave the wilds of Ravine, a game that beckons the bold and the brave to survive the unpredictable whims of nature.  SpaceTeam brings us this captivating experience with the promise of adventure and camaraderie in this cooperative game. Ravine quickly found a special place in my heart, akin to the affection I hold for the hidden meadows and secret forests that dot the landscapes of my beloved board games. 

Ravine unfolds on a mysterious island, where players, survivors of a harrowing plane crash, must work together to gather resources, withstand the night’s challenges, and ultimately signal for rescue. Each adventurer begins their journey with a plane ticket in hand. These tickets, offer us an edge against the whims of fate. They carry blessings such as the restoration of two hearts, a shield for two players against the capricious weather events, or the sudden emergence of a shelter amidst the wilds.

The game greets adventurers with a deck of Night cards, each a trial to endure; a collection of Forage cards, the bounty of the island waiting to be discovered; and a set of Heart tokens, representing the health and spirit of our band of survivors. To ready ourselves for the twilight hours, we can craft shelters and bestow additional hearts upon ourselves and our fellow adventurers. It’s crucial to ensure that each of us can endure the night, for the perils that lurk in the darkness may diminish our health or dismantle our shelter. 

To embark on this journey, we first distribute Heart tokens, our lifeline in the wilds, and gather around the board, ready to face the island’s mysteries. As the sun dips below the horizon, we venture into the heart of Ravine, foraging for resources by the light of the stars and the glow of our resolve. Each piece of wood, each found artifact, becomes a beacon of hope, a chance to weather the night’s trials and greet the dawn unbroken. With a flip of the fire token, it can mean the difference between safety and danger.

The essence of Ravine lies in the dance of day and night, a cycle of gathering and surviving. A turn might see us drawing from the Forage deck, our hearts buoyed by the discovery of a wild berry bush or a cache of precious wood. Yet, as night falls and the Night cards reveal their secrets, our resolve is tested. Perhaps a storm rages through, demanding we sacrifice our hard-earned resources to shelter from its wrath, or a prowling beast stalks our camp, a shadowy threat that diminishes our numbers and our spirits. The below cards are examples of the types of things you might encounter at night.
