Email privacy@gameshoutout.com and a person will read it. There is no ticket system and no bot. If something is wrong with the game, it helps enormously to include:

  • which tablet you are using (for example, Fire HD 10, 11th generation),
  • what happened, and what you expected to happen instead,
  • what you were doing just before it happened.

How to play

  • Tap a firefly while it is glowing. A dark firefly cannot be caught — wait for it to light up again.
  • Every catch makes the jar brighter, which matters more and more as the yard gets darker.
  • Moths are not fireflies. Tapping one near the porch light just makes it flap off. Nothing is gained and nothing is lost.
  • At the end of the night, tap once more to take the lid off and let every firefly go. That is how the evening finishes.

These same four notes are inside the game, under the gear icon on the title screen.

Sound is too loud, too quiet, or in the way

Tap the gear on the title screen. There are two separate levels — sounds for the chimes and the catches, and crickets for the background of the evening — plus a mute switch that silences everything. Each adjustment plays a short sample so you can hear the new level immediately. There is also a mute button in the top corner during play.

The game is fully playable with the sound off. Nothing important is told to you by sound alone.

The game closed and I lost my evening

It should not be lost. Progress through an evening is saved as you play, and again whenever the game is paused or sent to the background. Reopening the game brings you back to the same point in the same evening, paused, waiting for one tap to carry on.

If an evening genuinely vanished, please email us and say what happened just before — that is a bug, not something you did.

It paused by itself

That is deliberate. If nobody taps for a while, the game pauses and saves rather than letting the evening run out on its own — handy when a child falls asleep holding the tablet. Tap anywhere to continue.

How do I get the other jars?

By catching fireflies. The count that unlocks a jar is shown beneath it on the title screen, and it adds up across every evening you have ever played. Jars cannot be bought — there is nothing to buy in this game.

Is it safe for a young child on their own?

That is what it was built for. There is nothing to purchase, no advertising, no account to create, and no link anywhere in the game that leads out to a browser or a store. The game cannot connect to the internet at all — it does not request the network permission. Nothing a child taps can break anything or spend anything; the worst outcome of random tapping is a volume slider moved, which is easy to move back.

Refunds and purchases

The game is sold through the Amazon Appstore, so purchases, receipts, and refunds are handled by Amazon under their policy rather than by us. If Amazon has already taken care of it and something is still wrong, email us anyway and we will help however we can.

Privacy

Firefly Summer collects nothing at all. The full policy is on the privacy page.
