Brainwaves: The Astute Goose was such a charming and challenging game! It kept us all on our toes, as I scrambled to remember which suspect had a goose and which one was wearing a bow tie. The game is wonderfully engaging, whether you’re playing solo to hone your memory skills or competing against friends to see who can recall the most details.

Brainwaves: The Astute Goose comes with 25 Suspect Cards, each showing a suspect’s clothing, accessory, and animal companion. There are 6 Number Cards to organize the suspects in a lineup and 5 Feature Cards as visual guides. Two dice help determine which suspect and feature you’ll guess, and a notepad keeps track of scores as you test your memory skills.

Setting up the game was as simple as laying out the number cards in a row and placing one suspect card face-up beneath each number. I took a moment to study the suspects, memorizing their features as best I could. Then, after everyone was ready, I flipped the cards face-down and prepared to put our memory skills to the test! I decided to play the Rookie level, so I had two cards above each suspect.

Brainwaves: The Astute Goose is all about using memory and deduction to identify suspects based on the features you’ve memorized. I rolled both dice—one die tells you which suspect you’re guessing about, while the other tells you which feature you need to recall.

On my first turn, I rolled a 3 on the number die and the clothing feature on the feature die. That meant I had to recall the clothing of the suspect in position 3. Taking a deep breath, I tried to remember—was it a striped shirt or a bow tie? I confidently guessed, bow tie and flipped over the card. Success! I was right, and I happily added it to my score pile before introducing a new suspect into the lineup.

For my next turn, I rolled a 5 and the animal feature. This time, I struggled a bit, trying to remember if the suspect had a dog, goose, or a rat by their side. I guessed rat, but when I flipped the card, I was met with a sneaky little rat! Back it went, face-down, and I reminded myself to pay better attention for next time. The game flowed beautifully, with each turn feeling like a little puzzle to solve. It was simple yet so satisfying—each correct guess brought a little cheer, and even the mistakes were opportunities to improve my memory. Perfect for a quiet evening of solo play and keeping my mind sharp!
