Two Decades in Malton: A Farewell to Urban Dead

There are some games you play, and then there are the ones that become part of your life—woven into your routine, your friendships, your milestones. UrbanDead was never just a game; it was a city, a story, a second home. And now, after nearly two decades, Malton is sinking for the last time.

For almost twenty years, it was always there. Through moves across the country, through the birth of kids, through growing families and changing jobs—no matter what was happening in the world, Malton stood. I logged in, knowing the same ruined streets would be waiting. The same desperate scavenges, the same last stands, the same thrill of a narrow escape. Some of us fought to survive. Some of us fought just to make chaos. But we all built something here—something that’s hard to let go of.

And it wasn’t just the game, was it? It was the humans and zombies. The ones who fought beside me, the ones I tried to outrun, the ones I revived when they needed a second chance…you know those Rotters. The ones who became friends, allies, legends in our own corner of a digital city. Over the years, we didn’t just play—we lived in Malton, each of us carving out our own small piece of its history.
