Wingspan Digital swept me off my feet with its breathtaking visuals and calming ambiance! Each bird I added to my sanctuary felt like a cherished guest, bringing with it new abilities and a bit more magic to my growing preserve. The animations, the bird calls, and the fluid gameplay made me feel like I was truly in a world where nature and strategy intertwined. One of the best reasons to play the digital version is to get good and win when playing the board game with friends.

These goals push you to focus on specific strategies each round. Whether it’s having the most eggs in a certain habitat or the most birds with a specific feature, the end-of-round goals provide extra layers of strategy and points. Check out the photo below. Some goals depend on the number of eggs, the location or other things.

The three habitats each allow you to take different actions; the below photo has the forest. Forests are for gathering food, grasslands are for laying eggs, and wetlands are for drawing bird cards. Balancing your actions across these habitats is crucial, as each bird you play enhances your ability to take stronger actions in that habitat.

You gather eggs primarily from the grasslands habitat, or sometimes from specific bird cards that grant additional eggs as part of their unique abilities. For me, collecting eggs became one of my favorite things to do in Wingspan. There’s just something so satisfying about watching your birds settle in and seeing the eggs pile up in their little nests. Not only did it help me score points, but gathering eggs also felt like nurturing life into my wildlife preserve, which added a personal touch to every turn.

Each bird card has unique abilities that trigger during different phases of the game. Some help you gain food, others allow you to draw more cards, and some give you bonuses when laying eggs. Planning your sanctuary’s engine around these abilities is key to success. Some cards get triggered when played or when activated (each time you pass the card). You can see a few cards above.
