I’m continuing to dive into the sparkling world of Splendor Expansions with the Trading Posts expansion. The Trading Posts expansion introduces a new layer to the beloved game of Splendor, where collecting gems and purchasing development cards were just the beginning. Now, we have Trading Posts, which bring new goals and rewards that can completely change your strategy!

This expansion includes a special board. These cards offer unique abilities once you meet certain conditions, like collecting a specific set of development cards. For instance, in the image below on the left, if you get three ruby cards and one diamond card, then you get a gem every time you collect a development card.

My favorite is this: if you collect five emerald gems, you get five—yes, five—victory points! I ended up losing the game because my friend acquired three onyx gems, earning one victory point for each.

Adding the Trading Posts to our game of Splendor means we’re not just racing to snatch up gems and cards; we’re also strategizing to meet the conditions on these Trading Post cards as efficiently as possible. It adds a delightful depth to planning your moves, because now you can tailor your strategy to activate these powerful new abilities. To add an extra twist, combine the Trading Posts with the Strongholds expansion.

The Trading Posts expansion for Splendor rejuvenates the game and injects an exciting strategic element that keeps it fresh.
