Seismic: The San Andreas Tile Game isn’t just another board game—it’s an adventure in urban planning with a seismic twist, set in the ever-shaking landscapes of San Andreas, California. Here’s the scoop on this thrilling game, perfect for 2 to 4 players who love a touch of chaos mixed with their strategy.

In Seismic, each of us gets to manage a road crew. Our job? To lay down a sprawling network of highways. But here’s where it gets exciting—the region is prone to earthquakes that can shake up everything you’ve just built!

The game includes an array of pieces: 60 highway tiles that look like various road configurations.

There are 13 intersection tiles for crafting your roads, along with 1 central San Andreas tile. In order to get points for building the road, the road needs to have an end and a beginning.

There are 6 quake tiles that simulate the tremors and aftershocks. There are also 80 tiny wooden cubes that represent the road crew markers.

Setting up the game is like plotting out your very own mini city. Place the San Andreas tile at the center, shuffle specific tiles and quake tiles together, and set the stage for an unpredictable game environment. The gameplay kicks off with each player drawing and placing tiles to extend the roads from the central tile. Every tile must align perfectly, highway to highway, with the aim to expand your network without running into roadblocks—literally! After placing a tile, you might also get a chance to place one of your crew markers, claiming that bit of highway.

When someone draws a quake tile, the real action begins. These tiles disrupt your carefully laid plans, removing roads and forcing you to rethink your strategy on the fly. It’s a dynamic challenge that keeps every player on their toes, making every game an unpredictable journey.
The game ends when all tiles are placed or when the board’s potential has been fully tapped. Points are scored based on complete highways marked by your crew, with extra points for intersections and clever connections. Notice in the photos the tiny wooden cubes.

Seismic stands out because it perfectly captures the thrill and unpredictability of building in a quake-prone zone. The mix of strategy and luck, along with the thematic earthquake twist, provides a delightful challenge that’s different every time you play. The components are beautifully designed to fit the theme, adding an immersive layer to the gameplay.

Playing Seismic felt like a delightful dance with danger—a strategic ballet where every move could lead to triumph or disaster, all dictated by the rumbling whims of the tectonic plates beneath San Andreas. It’s a must-try for anyone who loves a game that blends planning with the excitement of unexpected twists!
