The Big Idea by FunForge games is the name of the latest party game I played and what a delightful concoction of creativity, persuasion, and laughter it has proven to be! The six of us were eager to unleash our inner inventors!

The box comes with three types of cards. The green Description cards, The purple Vote cards and the blue Item cards. To setup The Big Idea you deal out three of the Item cards and three Description cards—each brimming with possibilities, from the mundane to the outright bizarre. Here are the cards I got in the first round.

The heart of The Big Idea beats in its gameplay, a merry dance of wit and whimsy. Each turn, we inventors combine one or more Item cards with one or more Description cards to create a new, often ludicrous product. I chose to make a “Plastic Wheeled Robot” with my cards. My friends made a “Low-fat Lipstick” and a”Submarine Monkey.” The possibilities are as boundless as our laughter. Think about what you would make if you had my cards.

But the true magic of The Big Idea lies not just in the invention but in the pitch. Each of us took turns presenting our creations, pitching our silly inventions, hoping to convince the others of our product’s worth. It was a spectacle of persuasion, with each pitch more outrageous and endearing than the last.

Vote cards are the key to how an Inventor claims victory. There are two types of these, one has a medal and the other is blank. There are a limited number of Medals, so it is pretty evident whose idea is the clear winner. I personally felt like it had less to do with the quality of the invention and more to do with the pitch. The inventor whose creations garner the most support at the end of the game is declared the winner, a master of innovation and influence.

In the world of The Big Idea, success is measured not in points or strategic victories, but in the moments of connection and hilarity shared amongst friends. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the biggest ideas come wrapped in laughter, ready to be unwrapped in the company of kindred spirits. So, if you find yourself in need of a spark, a giggle, or a moment of delightful madness, The Big Idea awaits.
