Gelatinous: Solitaire version

I have been under the weather and searching for games to play alone. I noticed on the Steve Jackson games website that there are solitaire rules for Gelatinous. The game’s mini board, crafted from the same sturdy material as a bar coaster, proves not only durable but also wonderfully thematic. This game, with its compact and familiar texture, but this time just for one player. One side of the game board has a cube on it and the other has the game board with directions.

First, you must assemble your tools for the journey: 13 six-sided dice, a piece of paper, and a pen or pencil to record the tales of your trials. Set aside five of these dice as reserves, like loyal companions waiting in the wings, leaving you with eight dice to commence your gooey quest.

Begin by rolling the eight dice. Make a careful tally on your paper for each roll to chronicle your adventure through this game. The dice that reveal the number 3 are the very essence, the foundation of your growing cube. Set these precious threes aside as you roll them; they are the cornerstone of your empire of goo. Dice that show the number 1 are banished from your active pool, relegated to your reserves, while those showing the number 6 are like found treasure. Allowing you to rescue a die from the reserves for each 6 rolled, thus replenishing your pool of potential.

Continue this until you create the cube by gathering eight 3‘s, or when the dice run out, marking a noble yet unsuccessful attempt. Your final score is woven from the total number of rolls, diminished only by any dice that remain unrolled in your hand at the journey’s end.

So, let us roll with both joy and strategy as each toss of the dice builds toward our ultimate creation or our tale of what might have been. I really enjoyed this take on this popular dice game.
