I played a Codenames Duet, a game based on an old favorite. This version of the beloved Codenames card game, tailored exquisitely for pairs, transforms the essence of espionage into an intimate exchange of wits and whispers. The layout looks completely familiar, doesn’t it?

You and your partner sees the opposite side of the car and embark on a secret mission, to discover 15 hidden agents from the 25 words using a one word clue. The key card is a map, revealing the shadowed corners where your agents await, stepping lightly around bystanders and the ever-watchful gaze of assassins. There are a lot of agents, green squares, that you will have in common. This game has a lot of Assassins and there is a goal to find all the agents in quickly.

Playing Codenames Duet was similar to the Codenames party games. The game becomes not just about finding the right words, but I found that it isn’t really who wins or loses. Is it the clue giver or the clue guesser that wins. To those who seek adventure in the quiet spaces between words, who delight in the dance of minds and the joy of shared discovery, Codenames Duet offers a journey for two that is as challenging as it is rewarding.

I really enjoyed Codenames Duet for its thoughtful and intimate gameplay, but I must admit, I have a soft spot for playing the original Codenames as a party game. There’s something special about bringing a larger group of friends together, where the energy and excitement of the crowd turn it into a truly memorable experience.
